Practice Owner

  • Karen Jackett , DVM


        Dr.Karen Jackett grew up in Orange County in Southern california. She moved north to attend college in Davis, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in 1983, followed by her DVM degree in 1989.
        Dr. Jackett started at Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic in 1991, and she purchased the practice in 2004. After so many years here, Dr.Jackett feels a close connection with her many long-time clients and patients, and she thanks the local community for their support over the years.
        When not caring for others pets, Dr. Jackett spends time with her own extensive menagerie of dogs, cats, goats, chickens and horses. She enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, trail-riding and showing her horses in cutting horse competitions.

Veterinarians

  • Ginny Carlson , DVM


         Dr. Ginny Carlson was born here in Placerville, was raised in Pleasant Valley and graduated from El Dorado High School. During this time, she was active in 4-H, sports, FFA and dog agility on a national level. She worked for Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic as a veterinary assistant before going off to college. She then completed her undergraduate studies in Fresno while working in a veterinary hospital associated with a local animal shelter. While at the same time, completing her massage therapy certification, bartending license and being very active with various dog rescue groups.
        Dr. Carlson graduated from the UC Davis veterinary program in 2007. During veterinary school she worked at Loomis Basin Animal Hospital and with the shelter dog project at UC Davis. Upon graduation, she split her time at Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic and Sierra Animal Hospital. Dr. Carlson loved working at Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic so much, she began working full time here in 2008.
        Dr. Carlson shares her life with her husband Jeff, their 2 cats (Waggles and Duncan), their 3 dogs (Flirt, Bourbon and Cooter) and a tank of salt water fish.  She is active in dog agility and softball. Dr. Carlson loves just about anything to do with the outdoors (camping, hiking, off-roading, etc).

Practice Manager

  • Kristine Avery , CVPM


        Kristine Avery has worked in the field of veterinary medicine since 1995, and has been with Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic since 1998. Kris grew up in Lompoc , Ca., and has lived in El Dorado County since 1986. She spent 11 years in South Lake Tahoe , before making her home in Placerville . Kris attended St. Petersburg College , studying veterinary practice management, and received the CVPM (Certified veterinary Practice Manager) designation in 2009. While at work, Kris enjoys spending time with our clients and their pets, and managing the hospital. Her favorite part of her job is marketing, while the most challenging part of her job is budgeting and inventory. Kris continues to expand her knowledge and further her education in veterinary management by attending veterinary seminars and conferences, and taking online classes.

        Kris shares her life with her husband Rod, their 2 Labradors (Pete & Rhoda), their Pointer/Shar-Pei mix (Peaches) and their 2 gray cats (Ice & Binx), they live in Pleasant Valley . They enjoy visits with their grown children and their families. Kris & Rod enjoy traveling and have been to many wonderful places, including the Galapagos Islands. Kris is a trained volunteer for Noah's Wish, responding to rescue animals during disasters when needed. She enjoy's being part of an organization such as Noah's Wish, that does so much to contribute to the care and well being of animals.

Reception Staff

  • Betty Ondricek


        Betty Ondricek has been a receptionist at Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic for 5 ½ years and enjoys greeting the clients and their pets. She grew up in the Sacramento Valley where her family raised cattle and horses. Betty enjoys working with all types of animals. She has been an active member of Sierra Wildlife Rescue since 1993. During that time, Betty has worked with foxes, coyotes, raptors and song birds. Currently she is the handler of a spotted owl which she takes to schools as part of Sierra Wildlife’s “Living with Wild Neighbors” program.

        Betty and her husband Burt have lived in El Dorado County’s “south county” area for 25 years. They are owned by numerous rescued cats, 4 dogs and 2 goats.

Veterinary Technicians

  • Amy Nichols , RVT


        Amy Nichols has worked in the field of veterinary medicine since 1987,  11 of those years have been spent here at Pleasant valley Pet Clinic. Over the years, Amy has worked on and off doing relief work for an emergency hospital, where she was able to perfect invaluable skills. Amy's favorite part of her job, of course, is the animals and their owners, but her real love is emergency, triage and dentistry.
        Amy stays busy with her husband of 19 years, and their 2 children. She enjoys camping, gardening, and just hanging out with her 3 dogs, 4 cats, and Sulcata tortoise. Amy also enjoys keeping up to date with her work skills, so she is constantly enrolled in online continuing education classes.

Veterinary Assistants

  • Lindsay Dawe


        Lindsay Dawe has been working in the veterinary field since 2007, but has been passionate about helping animals since the age of 9. She began volunteering for Sierra Wildlife Rescue when she was 15 and started a pet sitting business as soon as she turned 18. Lindsay began working in the veterinary field as a receptionist and vet assistant just before turning 18 and eventually transferred here, to Pleasant Valley in September of '08 as a veterinarian's assistant. She has lived in Somerset since 1998.

        Lindsay has a thirst for knowledge. After finishing sophomore year at Union Mine High School, she decided to enroll in a charter school in order to attend community college simultaneously. Lindsay plans to major in Animal Biology with the eventual goal of becoming a parasitologist. Just this last May (2010), she was thrilled to receive her A.A Interdisciplinary Studies math and science and A.S General Science. Her next step is one more A.S in Biological Sciences before hopeful transfer to Monterey Bay University Bachelor's program.

        Lindsay's favorite part of the veterinary field is research, particularly microscopy and parasitology and she hopes to further this interest for years to come. In the mean time, you can find her assisting the doctors at PVPC, doing some photography for the Fairplay Winery Association, attending Folsom Lake College, hiking (usually at the ocean!), gardening, or serving as your neighborhood pet, house, and baby sitter.

        As for her own pets, Lindsay has a standard poodle "Nessie," a Border Collie/Shepard mix "BB," 5 cats, 2 bunnies, 3 potbelly pigs, 2 chickens, a parakeet, a leopard gecko, a California king snake, a bearded dragon, and 3 fish. As most of us in this business, she lives for her babies!

  • Emily Barber


        Emily Barber is a native El Dorado County girl, born in South Lake Tahoe, then moving to the Pleasant Valley area of Placerville when she was in the second grade, and plans to spend her future in or around the Placerville area. Emily graduated from Union Mine High school in 2008 and is now finishing up some online business courses and moving on to study animal care. Emily started volunteering at Pleasant Valley Pet Clinic in February, 2010 and became part of the team shortly after, in April. Emily is really enjoying working at the clinic and is excited to further her career in the veterinary field. At work, Emily ultimately enjoys talking with the clients and, of course, working with the animals. Every day is a new learning experience for her and she loves it! 
        In Emily's spare time, she enjoys relaxing at home with her two kitties, Blazer and Norma, and taking her red eared slider turtle, Tommi, fishing. She also enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, Chad and hanging out with her friends, going camping and wheeling, going for scenery drives and enjoying the water and the snow.

Hospital Cat

  • Bonkers


        Bonkers started his career at Pleasant valley Pet Clinic in 2004, he was 10 years old when he came to us. His job is to eat, sleep, take his thyroid medicine twice a day, and occassionally allow the staff to hug him. He mostly keeps to himself, but sometimes makes an appearance for the clients when he struts around the hospital in the middle of the day. In his leisure time, he logs onto his Facebook page to update his friends on the happenings here at the hospital.He enjoys both temptations and CET brand cat treats.

  • Felix


    Felix has been with us since January 2011. He enjoys spending time with our clients, especially children. The only problem Felix seems to have is his overeating habit. He spends his days stealing food from Bonkers, and getting reprimanded by the staff.  He enjoys hunting the occasional spider, and playing with cat toys. Felix is quite a character.
